I traveled to Italy as Miss Italia North America to represent our region in the World Finals at Miss Italia Nel Mondo.
I had the most amazing experiences in Italy. I will always treasure the weeks I spent learning about my Italian heritage. Jet lagged but happy to be home to Canada.
For me, returning to Italy is a must. For my stay in Italy for Miss Italia Nel Mondo, I landed at Lamezia airport where we drove to take a ferry across to Sicily. I spent one week in Sicily at Castello Di Giuliano in Montelepre; close to Palermo Sicily. When I first arrived to Italy I did not know where I would be staying. Our friend Giovanni had a great place for us to stay. We crossed into Sicily by boat and drove 2 hours into the gorgeous mountainside village of Montelepre. My great-grandfather is originally from Palermo – this was extra special for me! Many of my Favorite photos are from this part of my journey at Miss Italia of the world. The friends we made at Castello Di Giuliano are so gracious and welcoming. I felt right at home.

After a few nights in Sicily we traveled by car, by boat, and then by car again to Reggio Calabria.
Daniella (Miss Italia Canada) & I met with Miss Italia Nel Mondo pageant officials when we arrived
to our hotel in Reggio. Upon arrival, we were whisked away for a study on facial bone structure. The study
was conducted by University specialists who were interested in studying our faces for symmetry. Italian
doctors studied the bone and soft tissue in our faces. I found this interesting!I did a lot of sightseeing.
Below is my view from the castle I was staying in — in Sicily prior to the Miss Italy of the World Pageant …
Week 2 at the pageant consisted of visiting sponsors, sightseeing, & taking photos. As the third week approached we began intense preparations for the live, televised pageant. Every day we were up before dawn for hair and makeup before practice.
Choreography was a big deal. We practiced for many hours. The tour schedule was intense and fast-paced.
As the stage materialized we would soon hold our practices outdoors there. I was not nervous for the finale.
I felt rather relieved when everything was finalized and we were walking out on stage.
It was an honor for me to represent North America at Miss Italia Nel Mondo.
I will never forget the night before rehearsal, we were each given our country’s flag as we stepped out of our ride.
People everywhere lined the street as we walked with our flag to the stage. I felt privileged to learn the origins of my family & to represent my family history on the world stage.
Miss Italy was exciting.
The top 6 did a James Bond Themed dance; and & he host tries to make the top 3 ladies cry on stage by showing them old family photos. It works.
Considering at that point we had been away from our families for over 4 weeks.
Silvia Novais from Brazil was crowned Miss Italia nel Mondo 2011. She is such a sweet lady.
She did a fantastic job to win Miss Italy.
We became close to one another – as the contest narrowed we would cheer on the rest.
We worked hard for the finale.

I had an unforgettable time while in Italy for Miss Italia nel Mondo. I am so proud of myself to be able to hold a conversation in Italian. I will continue to study the Italian language.
Participating in Miss Italia Nel Mondo was a unique, rewarding, challenging, and empowering experience.
I learned a lot during my time abroad.
