I attended the world’s first drive-in immersive art exhibit in the heart of downtown Toronto Ontario Sumer 2021 Presented by Volvo. Attendees were given a seat inside a brand new 2021 Volvo: Sedans S60, S90, Volvo XC90 SUV, Volvo XC60 SUV, Volvo XC40 SUV including the all electric model to watch projected images of Van Gogh’s art. Projections filled the entire space at 1 Yonge Street.
The Show: Van Gogh … by Car
Each show lasted around 45 minutes and started on the hour sharp. For Guests were welcomed, presented with their front row seat to the show in their Volvo and gifted with a Van Gogh By Car Exhibit Mask and Poster to mark the occasion. Overall the consensus is that people who saw the show were impressed!
From the Van Gogh by Car Website:
“Visitors are immersed in Van Gogh’s works from his sunny landscapes and night scenes, to his portraits and still life. The installation includes his work Les Mangeurs de pommes de terre (The Potato Eaters, 1885) to La Nuit étoilée (Starry Night, 1889), Les Tournesols (Sunflowers, 1888), and La Chambre à coucher (The Bedroom, 1889).
The exhibition is custom-designed specifically for the historic space that housed the Toronto Star’s printing presses at 1 Yonge Street, transforming the industrial into the magical. Experience the organic landscapes of Van Gogh’s imagination, and ride the rollercoaster of Van Gogh’s descent into madness.
It is astonishing in scale, breathtakingly imaginative, and a completely new look at the master’s work”.
Covered by BBC News and other outlets around the globe, the much anticipated event was well received amid Toronto’s long standing lockdowns and covid restrictions.
