Theresa Longo Interview by Ashley
Waiting for the Weekend”

Ashley: How’d you write this song and what is your inspiration?

Theresa: “Waiting for the Weekend” is written super quick. It’s an easy “three chord” type of song and one I want to be catchy and simple. I actually start writing it after waking up sweating with mid-afternoon sun on my face through window blinds. That day inspires the first line of the song “Woke up hot with the city on my face”.

Further, I wrote this song almost ten years ago. As I play this song for a couple people for feedback, funny enough, a couple people thought I must have wrote this song about them (unbeknownst to me). There’s a line in “Waiting for the Weekend” goes:  “I, wish we could be more than just friends”, so it really made things awkward as I eventually explain to my test audience it was just a song, no hidden message. This hilarious scenario repeated itself twice when I was working out the song, playing it for people to get feedback.

Now, I instantly think of the iconic song by Carly Simon “You’re so Vain”, almost any time I think about the back story of my own song. So, “Waiting for the Weekend” always compels me to note the absolute brilliance of Carly Simon’s “Your so vain”. Because a couple people actually did think “Waiting for the Weekend” is written about them! Really, it was just written on the fly as a catchy tune! 🙂

Ashley: I was in the studio with you when you recorded this one, you recorded other songs that day too, will you release more originals as well?

Theresa: Thanks, yes you were in the studio that day! I work under Peter Linseman’s expert direction and when we have a few more solid tracks produced there may be an album in the near future! For now we are just having fun making great music.

Ashley: What are some of the most memorable moments in your music career?
Theresa: I’ve seen many concerts and performances. I used to have a contract with FORD Canada to be at every “Air Canada Centre” Concert promoting their vehicles. Pretty awesome to be a part of almost every concert to roll through the venue for 3 solid years.

Moreover, my most memorable music moments are jamming with artists I grew up listening to. I won’t name them, but their advice and mentorship helped me believe in myself and grow as an artist.

Lastly, a moment I’ll never forget? Being back stage at a show watching Slash warm up right in front of me. He asks me, point blank, a few important heartfelt questions, all the while he never stops wildly playing the fretboard as he warms up for his set. A surreal moment, one I’ll surely never forget!
